Hello and thanks for visiting...

I have been working in the area of health and wellbeing for more than 25 years, I am passionate about helping people to live the healthiest and most fulfilling life possible. 12 years ago, I choose to train as a counsellor as I believe we all need help from time to time and to feel safe and respected when we ask for that help. I wanted to provide such a space for people who need it. I am not perfect and I know what it is like to get things wrong, to stop and start and to have to keep trying. So I do not expect my clients to be perfect and to do everything right. We are all just human!

I have learned a lot throughout my own personal and professional life which I believe can be of use to others. I really love to meet people and support them to work out what they need and to be with them as they take steps towards making things better for themselves.

For Who?

Do you need to talk?

Talking with family or friends may often help, at other times extra support might be needed. This is when counselling, provided by a professional therapist who is fully qualified and skilled, can be of benefit.
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a space for you to explore what is troubling you or causing difficulty in your life. You will be invited to tell your story in your own time and in your own way. You may not know exactly what is causing your distress, your frustration, your sadness or any other feeling. You might just know that something is not quite right in your life. You will be offered non-judgemental support to understand your problems, find ways of coping or to make changes that could make things better for you. Sometimes with this support you will be able to find your own solutions, other times your counsellor might make suggestions to help you see or do things in a different way. The choice, however, will always be yours.

Counselling can help with…

If you experience anxiety, talking about it and getting to understand it better can help reduce anxious thoughts and feelings. Counselling can help you learn skills to cope when you are in situations that make you feel anxious and to help reduce the fear and panic that can often be part of anxiety.
How you experience life and the way you behave and relate to other people, is connected to how you view yourself and also how you think others view you. If you see yourself quite negatively and think others see you this way too, this shapes your self confidence and self esteem. Finding ways to challenge these negative views and learning skills to boost your self confidence and self esteem can be explored with counselling
I provide Couples Counselling for partners who want to improve their relationship or cope with issues that are affecting it. This could include communication, conflict, sexual difficulties, parenting and any challenging life events. Individuals can also find it helpful to talk about any relationship in their life that is causing distress or that they would like to improve or understand better.
Really knowing and valuing yourself as a person includes all aspects of yourself such as how you express your sexuality and gender. If you are finding this challenging or are trying to understand your sexuality and gender identity better, counselling can be an opportunity to explore these aspects of yourself.

Low moods and depression can happen to most people at some time in their life. They might pass quite quickly and you feel better again but at other times, the low mood can stay with you leading to depression. At such times, people can often find it hard to talk openly with family or friends.

Counselling can provide a space to talk, even when things don’t seem to make sense. You can be helped to find ways to cope with low moods and to take care of yourself and move towards feeling better.

Keeping all of your plates spinning every day and managing all the demands of life can be a challenge. It can be hard to find the time, or sometimes even the motivation, to do all that you need to do as well as looking after yourself and making time for family and friends. The day to day stresses of life can be helped with counselling. It can offer that neutral ear, when you need to work something out, it can help you find ways to manage your stress and manage your priorities.

Frequently Asked Questions about Counselling

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a ‘talking therapy’ with a trained professional who has the skills to listen and support you to explore what is troubling you or causing difficulty in your life. You will be invited to tell your story in your own time and in your own way without pressure.. Counselling provides support to help you understand what is happening in your life and how you can cope with it or work towards making changes to improve things .

How many sessions will I need?

This is different for everyone, depending on what issues you are experiencing. Sometimes people find up to 6 sessions beneficial, others may need more than this. In my practice there is no limit to the number of sessions you can attend, we decide this together as we go along.

I just feel mixed up, I don’t know what the problem is, would counselling help me?

Some people are not clear on what is actually wrong in their lives, they just know something is not right. Counselling could help ‘unpack’ that mixed up feeling to try to see what is causing it and what would help.

What is getting in your way?

We would all like to feel happy and content with our life and to have enough energy, joy and enthusiasm to get the most out of it. Sometimes things get in the way of that. If you want to make changes in your life, I would like to help you to take that step.
